Buildings

Existing buildings of a city, region or a certain area can be generated in different ways.

Depending on the type of use, different LOD (Levels of Detail) can be assigned.
Following data can serve as output basis for creation of 3D Cities:

Source data for existing buildings

Building sketches:
digital catastrial map, digital city plan

Elevation:
laser scanning, aerial photogrammetry (automatic, semi automatic), possibly also from digital maps

Simplified roof shapes:
laser scanning, aerial photogrammetry (automatic, semi automatic)

Detailed roof shapes:
aerial photogrammetry (interactive/semi automatic)

Simplified facade textures:
aerial photograph (automatic) or generated from texture libraries

Detailed facade texture:
terrestrial facade photographs (semi automatic) with tridicon™ GIPSY

LOD 0
Software: tridicon™ 3D
Input: digital ground plans
Digital terrain model (DTM)
Digital Building Elevations (DBE)
  • Derivation of simplified data from LOD 1 (minimum surface, elevation information, data reduction)
  • Derivation of building complexes (summarization, generalization)
  • Derivation of average building height from the DBE
Output: Building complexes without roof shapes

LOD 1
Software: tridicon™ SCRIPT
Input: ALK building sketches
Digital Terrain Model (DTM)
Digital Building Elevations(DBE)
  • Selection of relevant building sketches from the digital ground plans or maps (surface, elevation information)
  • Derivation of average building height from the DBE (flat roof, gable roof) based on the digital ground plans or maps and the DBE
Output: Single buildings with flat roofs or simple standard roof shapes

LOD 2
Software: tridicon™ 3D
Input: Existing buildings LOD 1
aerial photographs & orientation data
Digital Terrain Model (DTM)
  • Completion of missing building sketches by photogrammetric mapping
  • Photogrammetric measurement of roof shapes
  • Integration of CAD building objects
Output: Single buildings with detailed roof shapes

LOD 2 with texture
Software: tridicon™ GIPSY
Input: Existing buildings LOD 2
  • Creation of digital facade photographs with orientation data (projection center, viewing direction)
  • Automatic allocation of facade photographs and semi automatic matching
Output: Single buildings with detailed roof shapes and facade textures
