City marketing through virtual kart race in Bocholt

For the city and the city marketing association Bocholt GTA Geoinformatik built a photorealistic 3D city model.
Basis is the cadastrial map, tree location cadaster, DEM, aerial photographs and georeferenced digital photographs for the facade textures. The tridicon™ system (GTA Geoinformatik GmbH) that had already proven it's effectiveness in cities like the metropol Wiesbaden secured a maximum in quality along with moderate costs.
For city marketing tasks, students of the University of Applied Science in Gelsenkirchen developed a computer game with the title "BohKart". One ore more players can race their karts through downtown Bocholt. Through a sponsoring and advertising concept the players are ecouraged to visit shops in the real downtown shopping area. They can solve tasks to be able to upgrade their karts. Additionally banners and jersey advertising are utilized as in real races. With this concept Bocholt acquired a place among 24 (out of 78) cities in the city initiative "Ab in die Mitte" (get to the center)of the cities association of the state of Nordrhein-Westfalen. The initiative "Ab in die Mitte" has the goal to get "more life, more color and more visions" to the downtown areas of the state.
